Chuck Baldwin — Thompson Surge Means Conservatives Are Desperate: “The problem is, Thompson is not a conservative. Worse still (for the GOP), Thompson cannot beat Hillary in a general election. Mark my words, if Fred Thompson is the Republican nominee next November, Hillary Clinton is your next president. For that matter, I see only one Republican contender who might be able to beat Hillary in the 2008 general election: Ron Paul. Yes, you read it right. Ron Paul.”

One thing I know for sure, no matter if Hillary or Fred Thompson gets elected you will have plenty to write about for years, or until they stop you. I don’t disagree with some of what you said about Thompson. I do disagree that two thirds of the American people want us to cut and run from Iraq which basically is what Ron Paul would do. Even Democrats are not so stupid as to think we can just pull out without some prior political agreement like splitting the country into 3 regions and having a UN action to keep the factions apart. What they do not see is long term consequence of such an action which I will not get into here.

I wrote a piece on Ron Paul the other day I will repeat it here.
“Ron Paul would be the ideal president if we had never globalized, got in debt, went off gold, became the world’s military savior etc…but we did. Someone like Ron Paul could be a great president after we have a major depression and defeat Islamofascism.

If we elect Dr. Ron Paul now even though much of what he says is true his polices would just speed our demise. He could not get anything through congress. His foreign policy would just embolden Islamofascism and Israel and Europe would become their objectives. We could just sit back and watch while Rome burns? Not a chance. It would bring a major world war of civilizations sooner than our current course.”

You are right that Gingrich will not get elected but maybe he should get in the race. It might be the only hope for Republicans. With him and Thompson in the race along with the others, nobody would come to the Republican convention with anything near the delegates that they need to get the nomination. Then there is a hope of drafting someone who was not even running. Don’t ask me who, if it were my choice I would pick someone like Chuck Norris who would have appeal across party lines.

The alternative is a third party. That is very difficult to pull off since to win on a third party you have to be hugely popular, have a lot of money and be able to carry both houses of congress with your new party in order to get anything done. I think it would be easier for all Conservatives to just start their own Union made up of only the red states.
