Who will run the "democracy" in Pakistan? A monarchy connected with organized crime, a dictator, or a terrorist?
Lets see… Bhutto’s daughter took over for her old man and now her 19 year old son and her criminal husband is going to take over from her. Is this a democracy or a Mafia dynasty? Bhutto robbed billions from Pakistan and her husband is no slouch either . I suppose the US will not have any problem supporting woman, children and criminals to continue to lead Pakistan to “democracy”. What a Joke!

The major parties appeared to agree that the elections should take place as scheduled on Jan. 8 despite street violence and political turmoil triggered by the assassination of Bhutto. The Election Commission is to discuss the timing of the polls Monday. A successful vote would bolster U.S.-backed plans to restore democracy”

I think it should be pretty obvious what direction we’re heading. I don’t trust anyone in Pakistan but from a purely strategical perspective, I’d rather have Musharraf staying in power than having a corrupt mob claiming to hand over the power to “the people.” Of course I would rather have the Pakistanis live in freedom and peace but is that what “the people” is really looking for, and how are they going to deal with the sudden “freedom?” Can you seriously expect a terrorist hotbed like Pakistan to turn into a democratic and stable nation comparable to their neigbour India, where democracy does work relatively well? Should the U.S. risk doing what they did in Iraq? Giving “the people” democracy so they can start a new series of sectarian wars, plus the fact that outlaws might soon be getting their hands on nukes? God forbid! I’m not a supporter of Musharraf, let me make that clear. But I don’t have any sympathy for Bhutto. As a matter, she leaves me cold.
If the Pakistani gov’t is behind this at some level – which I’m very inclined to believe – then the problem is they’ve made a martyr out of her. And she may be dead, but her movement obviously is not. Think Arafat, Sheikh Yasin, and so on. And I’m sure she’ll be a martyr in the eyes of the naive modern West, being a woman, standing up for democracy (or at least claiming so) as a Muslim, being chairwoman of a leftist party and all that. I wouldn’t be suprised if they’re going to be selling t-shirts with her picture on in a few years… Yes, people are that crazy, to the benifit of the companies who sell that stuff.
Things are definitely not looking good over there in Pakistan. Some day the situation is going to explode (no pun intended). Perhaps the day when Musharraf is assassinated? Looks like 2008 is going to be a year we’ll never forget.
I agree that Musharraf is the least of the evils. No matter who runs Pakistan it is not going to lead to democracy.
World War III is already underway it is just that most do not know it.
We will soon be fighting from India to the horn of Africa and even South America and the E/U will get into it.
It is a fight over world order. Pseudo Christian Secular Humanism verses Islamic fundamentalists. These wars for control of nations and the earth are not going to die down they are going to be ratcheted up and bring the inevitable clash of civilizations.
