Yes, and at the same time the Dutch parliament is proposing to prohibit bestiality. Quite contradictory ain't it? But then with the current administration lead by center-"right" (?) PM Balkenende, nothing surprises me. Oh, and by the way, his "Christian" Democratic party (CDA) is governing (well, that's what they call it) in a coalition with a self-described socially conservative yet "socially minded" Christian Union party (CU) and the center-left Labour party (PvdA). Total insanity guaranteed! As far as the leftist parties are concerned, right now I have more respect for the left-of-center Socialist Party, not that I agree much of their views, but at least they're not as treacherous and inconsistent in their thinking unlike their centrist counterparts. And of course you and I both know I'm far from a leftist.

My dear northern neighbours' country is getting screwed by their government's conduct. At one point there was a discussion about the Labour party mayor of Amsterdam who thinks it's okay if a man doesn't want to shake the hand of a woman because of his religion (which in itself is ok but...), while at the same time the freaking EU condemned the religious right-wing Reformed Political Party for not allowing women to become members of their party on the basis of some UN convention of women's rights, and some Dutch parties wanted to suspend the party's subsidy saying they're homophobe and anti-women's rights, though this was later overruled by the Dutch supreme court (the party didn't compromise). That "Christian" socially-minded coalition party on the other hand got criticized for being anti-gay as well and the self-proclaimed "Christian" "socially conservative" party started to dismiss the criticism right away, claiming to be "tolerant" and nowadays they hardly make an issue out of their original ethical stances. But don't you dare to excercise your right to free speech to give your own views of the Qur'an! "Oooh, how intollerant!"

Priorities, people, priorities! When are they going to *govern* instead of wasting their time on non-issues. Also, when are all these so-called "Christian" parties going to stop calling themselves "Christian" if they keep compromising traditional family values just to be able to push environmentalist and socialist legislation down people's throats with their jolly godless coalition fellows! In my view these values lie at the heart of the Christian outlook on the individual, society as a whole, the role of gov't, the concept of liberty, the rule of law and social order. "But hey, we're all tolerant now eh, maybe they're gonna like us better when we keep our views of gay marriage for ourselves and join them in the global warming and "anti-consumerism" crusade.."

Sounds familiar? Similar situations exist in Belgium, in France, in arch-nany state Britain and so on. In fact this is the trend all over the EUSSR. And let's not forget Canada and California, among others.

I blame modern-day democracy for this lunacy. Modern-day democracy which is in my view as follows: social democracy = group thinking = relativism = political correctness = multiculturalism = social engineering = gov't by political elites rather than by the people = enlightened despotism = depravity.

I'm not a Dutchman and don't live in Holland so I can't vote for any of these parties. All I know is that if I were a Dutchman, I regret to say, I would never - *never* - vote for any party that calls itself Christian.

By the way, perhaps I'm being cynical now, but I actually wonder why bother defending Judeo-Christian values in our society anymore. It's like promoting a new ideology. It's so alien to many people that it would be more accurate in some countries to call old-style Socialism (that is, the Socialism before the era of political correctness) "Conservatism." Get the picture?
