Liberal address: Government of the morons, by the morons, for the morons shall not perish from the earth

Besides the authors two possibilities there is a third possibility. So A new liberal American government of the morons, by the morons, for the morons shall not perish from the earth.

Governing morons

Results of the law of unintended consequences are writ nowhere larger nor more plentiful or diverse than on the halls of government in Washington, D.C. Here, a body that was designed to manage the affairs of state has now morphed itself into the personification of omniscient beneficence. From this exalted position it now sees its job as one of wiping away ever tear from every sobbing, suffering citizen (two tears, if you an illegal sobbing, suffering non-citizen).

As to why this repeatedly happens (within the context of this column’s title), I can think of two possibilities:

First, those governing America could be morons. After all, they make these legislative blunders not occasionally, but regularly, after which the problem usually becomes worse. Their usual response is to create follow-on legislation that, well, keeps them in business by making the problems that arose from the initial legislation designed to solve the now-forgotten original problem, well – worse.

Second, our government may be creating legislation suitable for governing a nation of morons. These would be people who believe that the federal government is their nanny, and that it’s Uncle Sam’s job to wipe the various parts of their anatomy clean when they make a boo-boo, clean up the mess after them, and kiss their owie and make it feel better.
