Christians in Wisconsin should be outraged over spanking felony charge
Someone needs to spank the people who charged this father with a felony for doing what was right. All Christians and reasonable people in Wisconsin should be outraged. All involved in this abuse of state power should be sued and public officials should be removed from office. If you do not stand up for these things now your rights to bring up your Children as God ordained WILL be taken from you. All who were involved in this abuse of justice deserve my Demented Delusion or Dumb Club award
Pastor charged with felony for spanking son
A Wisconsin pastor has been charged with felony physical abuse of a child after he spanked his 12-year-old son for lying and a teacher notified social services.
Barry W. Barnett Jr., 43, of Poynette, Wis., is free on a $10,000 bond, but he could face up to three years in prison and fines for disciplining his son, the local Portage Daily Register reported.
At the pastor’s hearing, Barnett’s son said his father was right to spank him .
“He gave me a chance to tell him the truth, and I just kept lying to him,” the boy said.
The boy said his father gave him two “swats” that “hurt a little” on his rear end in June. He told authorities both he and his dad cried while he was disciplined.
The 12-year-old said he was warned he might receive a spanking if he continued to act up and that he understands what he did was wrong.
“You should not lie to your parents and you should not go to places (where you are not allowed),” he said.
One of his siblings mentioned the spanking to a teacher, who called social services, according to the report.

The people from Columbia county need to have a peaceful demonstration when this man goes to trial. The DA needs to quit spending tax payers money on something that should not be her concern – unless it was indeed abuse!
The class mate should of minded his own business instead of telling the teacher about the spanking but I imagine the schools have brainwashed the students to report on parents. The teacher should not have called child services on second hand information from a student and Child Services should never have brought criminal charges on a spanking. Sounds like everyone has become a bunch of busybodies and Nanny State control freaks.
The medical report is public and so is the report from the child that said he deserved it yet they are going to trial. Sounds like some people are on a personal crusade to stop Christian corporal punishment and they intend to use the pastor as their whipping boy. It is not just the tax payers money that is being wasted. This will cause huge financial hardship to this pastor and his family. So who is really abusing their family!
With these crusaders it is really all about intimidation. Now others will fear to spank their children. Put into law that the accused parent can sue all involved for court costs and punitive damages and all this nonsense will stop.
People should be afraid to spank their children. Striking a child is abuse and should not be tolerated in a world where we are trying to achieve peace. Children should not be motivated by fear to change their beliefs or behaviours. This approach just raises children who hide their true feelings. Children should learn what is right through words and by modeling their pareents’ actions.
If you strike a child, that child learns that violence is acceptable in the world.
Laura, I know there are many people who think like you but your are simply ignorant of the Bible and you are ignorant about the facts.
Who are you to say how Children are motivated when most of the world’s parents, many psychologists and God disagrees with you? You tell us this approach raises children who hide their true feelings. If that were actually the case maybe some children need to hide their true feelings instead of acting them out. There are many ways to discipline a child and corporal punishment is one of them.
By the way, violence is acceptable in the world. If someone attacks me I am going to use violence. Violence is often acceptable in the world because otherwise evil would rule everyone. What is true of nations is true of families. Your idealism is not going to make the world a peaceful place only one thing will do that. Deal with evil justly so that the world can live in peace. The survival of our whole civilization is based on that happening and it starts with disciplining and bringing up your children according to God’s instructions.
In my experience, those who spanked their children did not have to do it more than a few times in their whole lives because the children rapidly learned proper respect for those in authority over them. On the other hand, the Spock babies who were not physically disciplined produced the disrespectful and undisciplined Baby Boomer Generation. You can see their offspring in any supermarket with the parents yelling at undisciplined kids who have rings in their noses and tattoos on their butts and kids yelling disrespectfully back at parents. This rebellion goes on in their houses all the time and schools are battle zones and good teachers do not want to put up with these out of control rebels. No wonder half the people want no kids and many of the rest abort them before they are born. The end results of this permissiveness can be seen in this nation today with the anything goes – if I can get away with it – criminal generation.
