Discernment takes understanding. There is little of that these days because few know the scriptures and many "Christians" today are just looking for mystical experiences.

Rick Joyner is a false prophet and he is nuts. If Palin puts him on her team she she will be destroyed. Those looking to put Palin on the ticket better first find out just how far out on the Christian fringe she is before they select her to destroy the tea party.

Joel's Army is Word of Faith dominionism and the concept appeals to the positive confession prosperity gospel people who want to become little gods on the earth before the return of Christ. This is very much a Christian version of New Age theology. They love books like The Secret and think they can speak realities into existence through the God force.

Take a little dominion theology, word faith theology, Joel's army, The Third Wave, property teachers and and then add the emergent church and The Secret and shake and roll on the floor. Pour this concoction over ample nuts and you got a cult named Joynerism .

I might add... False prophets have no power except over the minds of the deceived.

I wanted to add that there is a great new article from Jackie Alnor at Apostasy Now regarding Joel's Army.

http://www.apostasyalert.org/REFLECTIONS/crowder.htm

By the way, do these false prophets have any actual power, as they predict doom for their critics?

If Sarah Palin ever becomes President, her consultant Rick Joyner could be her very own Rasputin. Joyner says that several female Repub. Congresswomen, including Michelle Bachman have "begged him" to have regular consultations with them. Is there no discernment anywhere?

That is indeed true -- I cringe whenever Pat Robertson tells us what the 'Lord' have been telling him lately.

That is why the only reliable way to define what is Christian is by what is written in the scriptures. When people claim new revelations from God that conflict or goes beyond what is written they get into all sorts of heresies.

Even when they claim revelation that lines up with scriptures that does not mean it came from God either. An awful lot of people are claiming words from the Lord wrapped in scripture that came from their own mind and their own presumptions. That is why we are to test all things to see if the scriptures they use are correctly applied. Also, If what they say does not come true it was not from God. There are many so called prophets around that are never held accountable for their prophecies.

Part of the problem here is that there are so many competing voices claiming that THEY define Christianity, that the way people are now, the loudest and the flashiest will get the most credibility. They will own what "Christianity" means to the rest of the lost and dying world.

On the other hand, I remember that as I started to seriously consider God's Word and the claims of Christ, that a "still, small voice" warned my spirit about people and ideas that were contrary to what I was reading in the Bible.

I say that to testify that He does communicate with us supernaturally, but I wonder if we have to already be headed in His direction to be able to "hear" it.

Maybe this my experience is evidence that those who really want to find God will, because He will make himself known to those that want Him. Perhaps I give myself too much credit -- I know that I would not be interested in God unless He drew me to Himself. Maybe that's why I've been "unusually" sensitive to good and evil for as long as I can remember; maybe that's why the truth is so important to me -- God had His hand in my life all along. It's scary in a way.
