Don’t teach tithing, celebrate free will giving in your church.

I wrote a detailed article on tithing. So I am not going to rehash that here but just let me say the facts prove that most Christians do not tithe. The majority do not even tithe in tithing churches. And the tithe these churches claim is a biblical mandate is not the biblical OT triple tithe anyway.

Christians need to celebrate free will giving because God loves a cheerful giver. Also remember that many people are specially gifted to give. If Pastors would express the real needs they have in the church to the membership instead of trying to put all under a tithing bondage. If they honored those who sacrificially give as much as they do other Christian ministries. Then I believe they will see God’s people faithfully covering every legitimate church need.

Backlash Against Tithing – CWN

A number of church leaders and theologians have also entered the debate. They point out that the tithe was an Old Testament requirement, and that New Testament believers no longer live under the Law but under grace. The tithe, however, can be a good baseline for Christian giving. If Christians are only giving 2.5 percent of their income to the church, I think they might want to rethink their priorities. I’m Kerby Anderson, and that’s my point of view.

  1. Yes, tithing was for the Old Testament believers just as animal sacrifice, eye for eye, etc. were for them. But in the Christian era, even the apostles after Christ resurrected to heaven, have NEVER paid tithe to any Church (Acts of Apostles). The same applied to early Christains, the Bible did not tell us where they paid tithe. But if anyone can give me a verse in the New Testament where tithe is commanded then I will be glad to read it.
