Runner-up to Miss USA vanity contest says God was testing her faith with gay marriage question?

I bring this runner-up Miss USA issue to your attention since it is the number one story on Fox news right now and it shows a strange mindset among Christians in the United States. I have to wonder about the Christian reasoning of Carrie Prejean. She thinks God was testing her faith by her being asked a question about gay marriage? First of all Miss Prejean, did you really pass the test of faith when you entered these vanity contests and paraded around in skimpy bathing suits for all the nation? Does the Bible imply that women should display themselves this way? What do they teach you in that California church anyway?

I suppose your deep faith in God allows body enhancements and I guess you think God also wanted you to starve yourself so you could win this vanity contest? Still, you tell us that God tested your faith in Him by allowing this perverted person that you willingly paraded yourself in front of to ask a question about your position on gay marriage. Are we a little confused Miss Prejean, or what?

For the sake of argument, lets just say you told this jerk what he wanted to hear. How then would you be able to face all the people that you already told that you are against gay marriage? Had you lied you certainly would have been exposed as a liar and even if you won the contest you would have lost. So lets get real here for a change. You had to answer the question as you did and it was not a test of your faith by God. You  put on this Achilles heal yourself when you put yourself in this position to start with.

You said you actually prayed that you would not be asked that gay marriage question? But you got that question anyway. The jerk asked the question because he obviously knew you claimed to be a Christian. Have you ever considered that this was allowed to happen not because it was a test of your faith but because God does not approve of you being in vanity contests?

Also your appeasing disclaimer was really wonderful, “I have nothing against gay people and I did not mean to offend anyone in my answer” Well why not miss Prejean? Homosexuals spread disease and are in rebellion against God and His natural order. If you do not think that will bring negative consequence for this nation you are not reading your Bible. If that offends people that are living out of the will of God, so be it. Your statement of appeasement was right up there on the same level as “some of my friends are black”.

If you disagree you might read this article by Dave Welsh, Should Carrie Prejean be held as the example of a Christian hero?

With Christian examples paraded before us like this no wonder our young people are confused.

FOXNews.com – Exclusive: Carrie Prejean Says ‘God Was Testing My Faith’ With Gay Marriage Question – Celebrity Gossip | Entertainment News | Arts And Entertainment

In an exclusive interview with FOXNews.com’s Courtney Friel, Miss California says her phone has been ringing off the hook with people offering her support after she took on a question about gay marriage on Sunday night’s Miss USA telecast.

“I have no regrets about answering [judge Perez Hilton] honestly,” she said in one of her first interviews following the show, where she answered that she was against gay marriage becoming legal in California. “He asked me for my opinion and I gave it to him. I have nothing against gay people and I didn’t mean to offend anyone in my answer.”

FOXNews.com: How are you feeling today?

Carrie Prejean: Honestly, happy. This happened for a reason. By having to answer that question in front of a national audience, God was testing my character and faith. I’m glad I stayed true to myself.

Carrie Prejean: I had a gut feeling. I knew he was controversial, and so was the question. Out of all the topics I studied up on, I dreaded that one, I prayed I would not be asked about gay marriage. If I had any other question, I know I would have won.

  1. Don,

I disagree with you concerning Miss California if only for this reason: I think we need to be careful how we judge one another. Stay with me for a moment…Her courage in stating what she believed, knowing the outcry that it would cause, deserves some credit. I feel strongly that she at least had the conviction to say what she believes, albeit confused and apologetic.

I am not saying that I know the heart and faith of this young lady, I am merely coming to her defense because I believe it is the confused values she was raised with that contributed to her confused answers. She deserves at least a little more credit than a learned “pastor” who alters his professed faith and values to fit a politically correct agenda. I am willing to give this young lady the benefit of the doubt concerning a immature Christian. I will lift her up in prayer that she will see and realize this dichotomy in her values, and her new “exposure” will allow her to grow in ways her parents failed to do inspire.

As for her participation in this contest, I agree totally with you, but I fault her parents more than her, as she could not have reached this level of competition without her parents having raised her with such “confused” values. Understand that I am not taking away the value of personal responsibility here. I have seen firsthand the families (mostly mothers) who live vicariously through their daughter’s accomplishments in these pageants. And its the sins of the parents (mothers OR fathers) that lead to this kind of confusion of values, and corruption of faith. The importance of godly examples, values and attitudes begins at home. I admit, I nearly made the same mistake.

Years ago, my daughter was invited to participate in a commercial by my neighbor who was the CEO of Sun & Earth products. It was at the filming of this commercial that I was exposed to a young lady who was all dolled up (not unlike Ramsey) for the “paid” role in the commercial. Later, my (then) mother-in-law encouraged me to enter my daughter in a pageant, and I was so appalled by what I saw, that I pulled her out immediately. I was not a Christian at the time, so I have no other explanation for my discernment except that perhaps God was protecting my daughter’s life from my ignorance.

I think this story should resonate as an example to “Christian” parents who support, and encourage “harmless” beauty (vanity) contests. Any parent who claims to be a Christian and yet drives their children to participate in prancing around stage barely clothed for all the world to see is abusive, IMO. Further, their lack of fundamental values allows for their faith, and consequently the Lord and Savior they claim to represent, to become a mockery as evidenced in this story.

Although I do not condone her participation in this pageant, I am disgusted that Perez Hilton’s degenerative agenda is allowed and accepted, in any media. [His] vicious attack on someone who dares to disagree, for any reason, is offensive at best, and has become the norm no matter what the platform. IMO, it says much more about society as a whole than it does about Miss PreJean. It is clear that a much larger ‘agenda’ is at work here.

  2. Betty, I was not judging Miss PreJean. I was questioning her claim that God was testing her faith. I do not think God had anything to do with the choices that she made to enter this vanity contest.

I agree that she is confused about what Christians should be doing with the body of flesh supposedly crucified with Christ and I agree that much of the blame for that can be put at the feet of the Christian “leadership” that she has been under. That is one reason why I brought it up.

As for Perez Hilton he is a reflection of the demented world that has rejected Christ and Christianity. If Christians insist on walking into a vipers den apart from the will of God they are going to get bit.

  3. Perez Hilton should change his name to Pervie Hilton. It would be more befitting of his nature and character.

As for Carrie Prejean, leaving aside whether she was right to participate in this whole pageant business, I didn’t really get the impression she was really being politically correct. When people say they have nothing against gay people they usually just mean to say they don’t hate them or don’t hold any grudges against them on an individual level.

However, I would agree that this tendency to apologize for your opinion is foolish and the result of unsoundness and giving in to the gay right extremists that brand everyone who disagree with them intolerant and fascists. There’s no question she must be naive, just for participating in these pageants alone.

But what if Carrie were not a Christian or at least didn’t identify as one? Frankly, I think the real culprit here is those perverts and immoral people that have to hijack every darn thing possible, even these pageant contests, and turn them into yet another vicious propaganda tool.

I thought the answer she gave was quite alright for a beauty pageant. She basically said that states should have the right to decide on these issues although she does not agree with gay marriage herself and think it is to be between a man and a woman. Pageant, Christian or not, there’s nothing wrong with what she said and it was not the kind of answer that would have justified Pervie calling her a “dumb bitch” on his blog. If anyone’s a dumb bitch it’s ___ (fill in the blanks).

    Just my opinion.

  4. I think the American people better take back their traditional culture or they are going to lose their culture to a very small, very well organized, and very well funded vocal minority of sexual deviants (two percent of the population). If conservative Americans or the Church were half as well organized or united as homosexuals on important moral and social issues the destruction of America would not be happening.

By the way, Here is a real agenda that they are now pushing in Congress that intends to make Christians speech on Homosexual sin a hate crime. If you do not take a stand with your representatives in Washington today, I assure you will be under tyranny tomorrow.

  5. I agree but it’s not just that two or three percent, it’s the majority of young Americans who agree with gay marriage as well and they are probably even more troublesome. It’s like the Muslim extremists. They’re well organized but there really aren’t all that many. It’s just that natives are too idiotic and morally unsound to confront them.

By the way, to comment on her claim about God testing her faith. She ought to check James 1:12-14.

“But each one is tempted when he is drawn away by his own desires and enticed. ” (verse 13)

God doesn’t lead anyone to sin. The problem is that people are corrupted and follow their own sinful passions. I don’t know whether she really believes or not but in any case I agree that she has in a way inflicted this on herself. God was not testing her faith, she was being naive and probably driven by the wrong desires.

Now she got the question she hoped not to get and she thinks that God allowed it to test her faith. But if anything, I think it’s more likely she got the question so she would realize how mistaken she was to participate in such a Christian-unfriendly event and getting forced to be politically correct or otherwise face ridicule by insane people like Perv Hilton. Hopefully she’ll realize that so she can avoid falling in the same trap in the future. She needs to test her own faith. I would agree with Betty that she is very confused about things. Probably all well-intentioned but still very naive.

Even so, she is entitled to her opinion like anyone else and I think what she answered was not wrong in itself. Many people in the audience seemed to agree with her statement so who do these people think they are to ditch her because of her opinion anyway. Would they have made a fuss about it if she were not a white self-proclaimed Christian? I would guess they wouldn’t even have asked her. Or in any case they would have tolerated her answer if she were of a minority religion and race in the name of ‘diversity’. After all, she would then have been the very embodiment of ‘minority empowerment’. LOL !

  6. There are many Christians today that do not obey the Bible when comes to modesty. I do think the reasons they wear bikinis or any other very revealing clothes because they want to get male attention. When they dress this way they devalued themselves to nothing more than a sex object to look at. I personally believe that a godly man would want a wife that does not reveal herself to the world but only to him.

  7. Here is a video of her being intrviewed by Cavuto of Fox News http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaHCWkGcWGM Carrie stated that her sister supports gay marriage and she states that her being against gay marriage is more based on her “opinion”. I wonder if she really knows what God thinks and what the actual health consequences are. She might need to Read Lev. 18:22 and check out the consequences. Here is a document that shows what happens to the queers…http://www.corporateresourcecouncil.org/white_papers/Health_Risks.pdf

(caution the above link is a very graphic medical report and it is not recommended for children or those who might be offended by the description of homosexual sex practices and the medical consequences of such behavior)

  8. Quite frankly I think we’re being exceptionally harsh on her to say the least. When I saw that video in which she got this question from Hilton I was thinking she was just your average person who believes in traditional marriage, big deal. I didn’t know she claimed to be a Christian because quite frankly I don’t care much for those beauty contests and I’m not even American so what would I have been following this whole thing anyway. They showed it on Belgian TV just to laugh at her and say “hey there’s another one of those dumb Americans, good thing she’s lost. ” Yeah I live in one of those countries where there’s people with Pervez Hilton-like ideas and worse. I would be proud if a beauty pageant said this in my country even though I find that whole pageant business silly.

I think considering that she’s claimed to be a Christian, she certainly has a lot left to learn and the criticism isn’t entirely undeserved. But the way I look at it is what if she hadn’t been a self-proclaimed Christian? How would you have reacted? Another tirade about how she shouldn’t have participated and about modest dress? I don’t have any high expectations from these beauty contestants because they’re usually stuck-up and very “artificial” people with no real convictions but the ones they’re expected to have in order to win the prize. At least she deserves the credit for not changing her view at the whim of that advocate of the almighty queer lobby that is growing ever strong in America?

By the way, that’s a good paper. Any sane person would be offended by homosex but if you don’t read up on it you have little argument but your gut feeling and your Leviticus verse to point out to people why God forbids it. That’s how I look at it.

    God bless

  9. I am not totally buying into the story she told us. I think there may be more to the story then what she said. She knew all the questions that might be asked beforehand and she knew Prevez Hilton was a flaming homosexual queen. She said she prayed that she would not be asked that question yet it was her that picked the homosexual queen to ask her a question. So if she really did not want to be asked that question why would she pick the self confessed Queen of all media? Something is not adding up. Perhaps she picked him because she thought she could appease this devil by selecting him. Christians ought to know that appeasement never works.

Also, I do not buy the argument that she was so noble and brave to answer the way she did because she had no choice but to answer the way she did. She knew if she flipped and said she was for gay marriage she would have been exposed as a hypocrite. She had no choice but to answer the way she did because everyone already knew her position on gay marriage. With her position most likely being known by the judges we certainly cannot assume that she would have won the contest if she flipped. She probably thought her answer was clever and when she found herself in second place she used it as the excuse for why she lost. Because in her mind she knew she was so great that she just had to win if the judges were really fair. 🙄

Also, why was this one of the possible questions anyway? With Donald Trump in charge the fix may have been in. Perhaps the judges were told to ask that question of a front runner against gay marriage in order to advance the gay marriage issue to a national audience and also by the controversy it created get the Miss USA contest and Miss Universe free worldwide publicity. Had this question been asked of someone who was for gay marriage you would not have heard a peep. Just the luck of the draw? I doubt it.

  10. Thank you for this article! I am amazed as I visit certain Christian blogs that some who profess Christ are applauding this young woman. I think her opinion on gay marriage is correct, but she never backed it with scripture. She condemns one sin, then flaunts another by dressing in a very immodest manner. Even her evening gown was way too suggestive! I also wonder why would you get involved in a beauty pageant in the first place. May God reveal to her this passage from 1 Timothy 2:9, ‘In like manner also, that women adorn themselves in modest apparel, with shamefacedness and sobriety; not with broided hair, or gold, or pearls, or costly array”.
I do pray for this woman, and we all should. I also pray for those who want to pat her on the back…all because she voiced her opinion. It isn’t like she gave the Gospel. Actually, she seems quite hypocritical to me; she condemns gay marriage {and rightly so}, then parades across stage half naked, causing men everywhere to lust in their heart. This woman does not need our applause, she needs our prayers.

  11. What someone needs to ask this girl is, what does she think of the Lord Jesus Christ.
I could be wrong, but I would guess the poor girl is not a Christian at all.
There are millions of people out there that call themselves Christians, but they are not saved.
There are many people who are against abortion, homosexual marriage and divorce, but they don’t even claim to know God. Rachel.

  12. A lot of people indicate that she is a Christian including articles on WND. Of course only the Lord and Miss Prejean really know for sure.

By the way, I believe I read from the winner of the contest that this was the fifth time Miss Prejean was asked her position on gay marriage in these beauty contests. So what else could she say but what she has been saying all along? I still wonder why she picked the homo queen to ask her a question unless she really thought that doing so would be to her favor?

  13. Give any born again believer just five minutes with her and we will know if she is saved.

If she is not saved, maybe she knew she wouldn’t win and it was a publicity stunt, if it was, it worked.
I’m from the uk and the story has been on our news and people are talking about it on the forums.

  14. I am sorry to say that most self confessed born again believers have no clue about how one is saved. Many cannot even tell you if they are saved.

I think she has a better chance of being a Christian than so called born again leaders who actively oppose God in the abominable laws they enact.

I know you were saying a real born again Christian would know in five minutes if she is saved but I doubt that as well. I have known “Christians” who know the right words to tell you but after spending time with them you become aware that they are doctrinally confused. Some I have known for decades that I know have been told the truth but I am still confused about their salvation. In the case of some only Jesus knows for sure.

  15. I believe that a person knows for sure if they are saved, they have the Holy Spirit and he gives them assurance through the word of God. I do think that believers can have doubts sometimes, but most of the time they know.
My son knows the truth and he could preach the gospel, but he is not saved. I know he could trick many into believeing he is saved, but spend enough time with him and a true believer will know.
At the same time I can see where you are coming from as I have known some who are in fellowship, that I’m not sure about 100%. I just tell myself that maybe they are just carnal Christians and they haven’t grown.
So as you say, in the case of some, only the Lord Jesus knows for sure.

  16. I have been blasted by some for taking the stand that while her speaking against homosexual marriage is to be applauded, we as Christians, overlooked her immodesty and have elevated her to Messiah status. What is wrong with Christians today? We must be so desensitized to what is culturally acceptable that we no longer have a check in our spirit.
Shame of the Church for continuing to look for a public figure who is culturally acceptable upon whom we place our hopes and dreams. Isn’t our Lord enough?

  17. I agree, the duplicity among Christians is why we are losing the cultural war in America.

What is wrong with Christianity today is that most confessing Christians have joined the world system with its evil practices, Christian leaders even promote it. They do evil in the name of freedom in Christ or learning to discern good from evil much like did the Gnostics.

If even half of Christianity practiced the teachings of the New Testament this nation would be healthy. The perverts and godless would never have dared to come out of the closet.

  18. Most of the Christians leadership is all mixed up. Many agree with her message against gay marriage so they have her speak on their platform and in doing so make her a Christian role model and Christian leader.

That does not change the fact that the Miss USA contest in nothing but a worldly vanity contest. Knowing that, should Christians leaders parade woman that partake in fleshly contests and make them role models and Christian leaders? (That is what they are now doing). Never mind, that the whole contest is all about promoting sex and lust. With such warped thinking like that maybe these Christian leaders should invite gay pride queens who claims to be a Christians to teach their followers on chastity.

  19. Ingrid at Slice of Laodicea addressed Steve Camp on her blog today. I had written to her because of my disappointment in Paul Proctor. I think her thoughts are very well worded. Christians would do well to take heed. We are a very desensitized lot!

  20. I read what Paul Proctor said yesterday. Usually I agree with the things Paul Proctor says but not on this issue.

  21. Yes, I agree about Paul. What saddens me is that I was one of the four of his readers who addressed him. And he doesn’t even know me! “Christian feminist” doesn’t describe me by a long shot! All I can say is that the Lord knows all. We trust in Him. The lines are blurring and the Church is looking like the world more and more.

  22. I just ran into a article through the crosstalk blog about Carrie Prejean. According to this article she did a hardcore sex tape. Here is the link to the article http://www.nydailynews.com/gossip/2009/11/05/2009-11-05_carrie_prejean_sex_tape_forced_exmiss_californias_lawsuit_settlement_report_.html

She sure does makes a mockery of Christianity by making people think she was a Christian but does things that oppose Biblical commands. I really think now that she was no Christian began with but a woman that associated herself with Christianity. Women these days just do not respect themselves and they try to act like sex objects.
