Should Christians help out email spammers and scammers?

I received this email today but I am not going to answer it because I believe it a scam. Probably at the very least it would just get me on the huge Nigerian suckers email list. I will give my reasoning why I believe this email is from spammers and scammers, but you be the judge.

The subject line in the email is “WHY IS IT THAT CHRISTIAN’S DON’T HELP” and it was sent to the email address on my website.

Dear Beloved
With regards to Christian beliefs why is it too difficult for christians to show LOVE to one another in line with the biblical teachings on “Love”? I think am saying this in respect of what happened to me recently, i was recently evicted from a little apartment  i rented in a city where i was working before i was relieved of my job due to the Economicmeltdown pervading the globe sometime last year, so i went to my local assembly to ask for some form of financial Assistance to enable me rent another apartment, but none was forthcoming, i have since March 2010 when i was evicted by court order been moving from one place to another with my three surviving Children aged between 12-7years old, they have since stopped schooling while i kept trying to see if i can secure another job but to no avail, it will be recalled that their Mother abondoned me and absconded with another man considered richer since i couldn’t meet her financial needs and upkeeps, i haven’t university education that could gaurantee me a good paid job, so getting a good job here in my country is based on two factors, its either you are a graduate from a a recognised higher institution or you are politically appointed, i do not have any of the aboves, so it is very difficult to get along here without committing one crime or the other to make ends meet, this is what gave birth to the high rising of Corruption in our society, but as a child of GOD i can’t do anything prejudicious to the words of the Living God.
The situation as it is now is still very dicey, i do not know who to turn to except unto the Lord at sametime i want to believe that GOD uses men to help men, so am continually looking upto God, i have withdrawn the grown up to help hawk pure water for our survival, although we found an uncompleted storey building where we are now squatting but at mercy of some unsruplus criminals, though we have nothing that could attract them.
For Christ sake help us with a little money to enable me rent aa apartment and put my daughter back to school i beg of you in the name God.
Thanks and may God water he that give heed to the cry of the needy.
Donald Nelson Brown

First Donald, Christians do help,  but Christians also need to be discerning in this wicked world filled with thieves and they also need to be in a financial position to help.

Second, I have a name and if  someone is not just spamming Christian sites they would take the time to find out the name of the person that they are addressing. My name is not ” Dear Beloved”.

Third, the butchering of the English language tells me this letter was probably written by someone in Nigeria and that just happens to be the world headquarters of email con schemes.

Fourth, give the name of the local assembly that would not help you so that what you say can be verified.

Fifth, you made no mention of trying to get relief from a Christian relief agency that might help you or verify your need. You also mention nothing about attempting to get government assistance.  Christians do show their love for those in need by giving to these agencies and paying their taxes .

Sixth, why did you not mention the name of the country you live in that has the employment conditions that you describe?

Seventh, if you were continually looking to God for help you would not be begging in emails for help.

Eighth, if  your three children aged 7-12  stopped schooling why do you what money to send just your daughter to school?

Ninth, Christians do not need to beg (Ps 37:25)

Tenth, generally, most indigent people do not sign their emails with three names.

Eleventh, you received a spam score of 4.8 on my spam software and I would not have even have received it at 5.

Yes,  I think the person behind the name Donald Nelson Brown in this email is a scam artist and now everyone else that also received this email and that even checks this email out on a search engines should not be deceived. I do not think Christians should just be patsies and be deceived into answering or helping email spammer and scammer thieves trying to take advantage of Christian love.

  1. Don… it is so sad that abusers like this cause many who would help otherwise to pull back. Discernment is very important indeed… your article points out some valid points for the one who is easily dupped. Those who serve via http://www.211.org are trained to weed such abusers out.

As a Volunteer Networker and Resource Referral person via “Feed My Sheep Global Outreach”, may I offer… those truly in need of help of any kind can Dial 211. http://livingasimplifiedlife.blogspot.com/search/label/Feed%20My%20Sheep%20and%20Other%20Volunteer%20Groups

Those who serve via 211 offer referrals from a Data Base of Social and Volunteer Groups. *if you want your Agency or Volunteer Group added, do tell them as they are adding to their Data Base regularly and are at their early stages of development.

When one in need dials 211 they will automatically be sent to their county and state in the US. This service is also available in Canada.

Of course… I would recommend that anyone in need go to their family be it spiritual or natural and ask for help first; and for a believer, that they do as the Lord leads … as this seems to be scriptural. The help they receive from such a one hopefully will minister to the spirit as well as the body… and may, if offered, received and walked out with compassion and practical wisdom in spirit and truth, expose and lay axe to the root of the problem … Lord willing.
