This is a clever article that points out the problems with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and most other 12 step programs.

Mama and Papa,

We are in America at last. The Lord has sent us into the strangest belief system. The men and women here seem impervious to the Gospel, but the Lord has given us great love for them.

This religion teaches that virtually anything can be defined as a god. During their meetings these people gather and pray in unity, but the “god” each individual prays to can be as varied and unique as particles of sand in our African desert. It is unsettling watching them join in the Lord’s Prayer, because most do not know Jesus, and therefore cannot know the Father.

This religion was founded here in America in the 1930s. It is a very American system of belief and worship. Very democratic, one might say. In this belief system, it is not important what one worships, only that one must worship something. In fact, initiates who come seeking help, but who have trouble inventing or envisioning a god, are often told they can worship a “doorknob,” or even the group itself to begin their spiritual journey.

Clearly the enemy uses this all-gods movement to dull Christians down, and to point the unsaved anywhere but Christ. This strategy has been marvelously effective.

Please pray that our Lord raise up other missionaries to send to these people in Alcoholics Anonymous. There are so many lost people here. This hurts to say, but many of the Christians, who love this all-gods sect, need missionaries almost as badly as the unsaved.

  1. 12 Step groups have their flaws, big time. But most, if not all of these articles are filled with Ignorance. If one is going to argue a point then he should come prepared with facts and knowledge.

  3. Hi Don- Simply Put, In AA, Finding a ‘HIGHER POWER’ in Anything Like a ‘DoorKnob’ is Promoted, Yes, As a Way to Change a ‘DESPERATE ALCOHOL ALLERGIC SOULS’ Way or Manner of Thinking. Not Everyone Who Has a Drink or a Beer, Drinks Till He Gets Into Trouble.
    It Really Isn’t How Often or How Much You Drink, It’s What Happens to You When You Drink; Anything Characterized as Alcoholic Behavior.
    I Know Alcoholics That Never Drink Just Because They Know That They Get Into Trouble When They Do. There are People that Aren’t Alcoholic & Have Too Many & Get a DWI/DUI or Have an Accident & Kill Themselves or Heaven Forbid Someone Else.
    A Lot of People That Don’t Drink, Per Se,Feel That They Have a Badge of Sanctimonious, Self Righteous Decorum, Indicating a License to Justify Doing What They Wish, Even Though Their Actions Can Have Very Similar Detrimental Damage to Themselves,Family & People Around Them That Would Classify Them as a ‘REGISTERED BAD BOY ALCOHOLIC’ & RUN-ON SENTENCE-OLIC
    Having That ‘RIGHTEOUS ATTITUDE’ Makes Them Blind to Basic Deep Problems Within Themselves, Which,By The Way, Those Same Deep Seated Problems Are Many Times Brought to The Surface By The Use & Abuse of Alcohol; Thus;’Enter The ALCOHOLIC.’
    Covering Much Ground & Jumping To The Familiar Addage;
    ‘WE ALCOHOLICS are the LUCKY ONES!’
    Back to the ‘DOOR-KNOB’ Idiom, That is a Tried & True Method of Getting ‘Troubled Folks’ Into an Accepting Open Frame of Mind.
    Though ‘DOOR-KNOB’ is Used, Finding ‘Hurting Souls’ That Came in at The Turn of That DOORKNOB, Stayed & Were Successful, Got That Way By a Higher Power & That Higher Power Discovered,Ultimately was GOD!
    Finding Successful Stories of Otherwise Unreachable DISASTERS CASES, Can Be Found, But The Successful Cases are 99.99% Through The Real God as We Know Him.
    I Believe in God & I Believe in AA & The Success it Has in PEOPLES TROUBLED Life, ‘AS AM I’
    In AA, The Doors are ALWAYS OPEN, It Is a GOD INSPIRED & BLESSED PROGRAM.
    OPPOSITION to PRINCIPLES of ‘AA or POLITICS’ That are Having Success, Are Always Badmouthed By Outsiders That PRAY for Their TOTAL DEMISE! WHY??
    Why? It’s Satan’s Way, to Say Good is Bad & Bad Good!

    I Found My Way Back to The GOD I Had RUN FROM in PRODIGAL STYLE Through AA; That I Believe For Me Was Totally Motivated & Inspired By ‘THE HOLY SPIRIT!’
    I Haven’t Had Any Alcohol Since 1987 & I Thank God For It, Through ‘AA!’

    I suppose a lot depends on the people that make up your AA group. If your in a conservative area you are likely to be led to Christianity if you are in a liberal area you are likely to be led into a designer religion and you may just trade one addiction for another.

  5. Don- My High Respect for You Again SOARS! I Do & I Did Use a Wide Pattern to Get Across the Point That AA Can Be GOOD,Of Which,Like I Said Before,Am a STRONG Believer! What Took Me a Page & a Coupla Paragraphs to Define The AA Program, You Qualified in Two Sentences.
    I Was Going to P.S. My Previous ‘RANT’ with; I Have Come Into the AA Program With Much Skepticism, Blasting Anything in the Program With Much Disdain. Though As I Did Go to a Meeting 87 out of 90 Days, I Did Find The Negatives of Which I was Convinced All These AA Groups Were Made. My Sponsor Took Me Aside & Said; “Hey,Take What You Need & Leave the Rest!” Of Course for a ‘Truest’ in the Worst Chemically Dependent Way an Alcoholic Could Get, I Should Have Rejected Any ‘Not All the Way’ Perfectionism Stumbling Blocks, But For The Grace of God, I Took Life on Its Terms & Not On My Attitude.
    There are Meetings & Possibly The Organization That Have Gotten Way Out of Hand, I Suppose Like Organized Religion.
    I Feel the Same Rule Applies; ‘Once an ALCOHOLIC or a SINNER has Actually Gotten to a Place Where Accepting or Acknowledging a ‘HIGHER POWER’ is In Reality Reaching Out in All Sincerity to a ‘HIGHER POWER,’ Therefore ‘Coming To Believe’ in ‘THE ONE & ONLY GOD,’for HELP, There is a Change That Takes Place That is Written All Over Their Faces as It Was Graciously Written Over Mine.
    I Believe Those People Really Got Saved by True Acknowledgment & Acceptance That There is a God & He Is Alive & He Is All The Things That The Bible Says He Is;
    After All, The Bible is a Message He Left For Us & To Us & Also a Multi-Faceted Comforter, The Holy Spirit! (With a Time Machine & WARP 9 Transporter TOO;
    Right Capt.Kirk? Right Scotty? Worm Holes are NOTHIN’!)
