A terminally insane world suggests realistic Christian expectations.

For two-hundred-thirty-four years the American people had largely been living in a bubble of sanity in a world that is terminally insane. Those that are still sane in America tend to think the world should want the Christian ethics and morality that America was founded on. The foundational truths of Christianity made America the most sane and prosperous nation on earth. But, even in the history of America we see times when the sanity bubble collapsed and insanity reigned in those living according to the flesh. It now looks like we have entered the terminal period of insanity for our nation, all world empires do, when they no longer fear God and people are allowed to prey on the innocent.

Most Americans have moved outside the Christian morality sanity bubble and have now chosen to dwell in the insanity of the world system. We see this in our educational system and the insanity that they teach. We see this in our growing criminal population and the counter reaction that always ends in government tyranny. That cycle is predictable. We see that this insanity prevails in our culture of “anything goes”. People want to be free to do whatever is right in their own eyes but the collective nation cannot even judge correctly between choosing good and evil.

The sanity in America largely came from her Christian foundations but now that the foundation has crumbed the whole house will soon collapse. Christians in America should not be surprised at what they see happening. When churches removed the Bible as the foundation for Christianity and inserted worldly doctrines of men the results became predictable for the nation. American Christianity is now much like the church at Laodicea. What did Jesus say to that church in the book of Revelation?

Rev 3:14   And unto the angel of the church of the Laodiceans write; These things saith the Amen, the faithful and true witness, the beginning of the creation of God;
15  I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot.
16  So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth.
17  Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked:
18  I counsel thee to buy of me gold tried in the fire, that thou mayest be rich; and white raiment, that thou mayest be clothed, and that the shame of thy nakedness do not appear; and anoint thine eyes with eyesalve, that thou mayest see.
19  As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.
20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.
21  To him that overcometh will I grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame, and am set down with my Father in his throne.

The Laodicean Church became wealthy and worldly. They lived in false security because they were rich by the standards of the world but Jesus said they were poor spiritually. They were living in the flesh instead of walking in the spirit.  The letter to Laodicea could have been written to most Christians in America today.

It really should not surprise any Christian that the world is terminally insane. The Bible makes it quite clear that sin has brought insanity into the world and that there is no natural remedy. Man in the flesh is corrupted, is without God, and is condemned. The natural man will only lead the world on the path to destruction. That is why God sent Jesus. To provide the only way given by God that man can escape the corruption caused by sin, the flesh, and the Devil.

Even the non Christian world should see that the world is terminally insane. The history of the world should make that clear enough to anyone. The people in the world have continually been demonstrating their depravity and insanity throughout time. No peace on the earth ever lasts for long, there is always more murder, another war, another rebellion, another revolution, and another counter-revolution. Nothing has changed over thousands of years except now man has the means to destroy the whole planet through man-made weapons of mass destruction (WND).

With the world’s insane history what sane person could even think that man will suddenly become peaceful instead of actually using WMD in anger one day? Just, look at world conditions today. After the war to end all wars (WWI), after WWII, after the age of Aquarius peace movement, and after countless wars and rumors of wars since, do you actually see any indication that the world is progressing toward peace? The world used the Acronym MAD  in the cold war era because what the mutually assured destruction they were contemplating was mad but that concept is not over just because the Soviet Union went broke and collapsed.

Even if all nations give up their nuclear weapons today what makes anyone think that man will not just create even deadlier weapons to use against each other in the future?  Besides nuclear weapons, countries are now actively developing laser weapons, plasma weapons, biological weapons and non nuclear explosives that bring as much destruction as nuclear bombs.

So, knowing that man is insane why do some Christians think that we are going to make a utopia on earth before Jesus returns and cuts off evil from the earth? Why do some Christians in America expect to bring Christian morality back to a nation that chose to abandon it?

All Christians can really do is be the salt and light to the world. The salt and the light is not given to the world so people can live fat and happy lives in their still corrupted flesh. The salt gives the cure for people to escape corruption of their flesh and the light removes the darkness that keeps them from seeing, believing and being born of the Spirit. We Christians should know that people of flesh cannot inherit the Kingdom of Heaven. They must be born of the Spirit, they must all be changed (1 Co 15:50).

The world is a terminally insane place. Christians should not have unrealistic expectations that they are somehow going to cure man by putting band-aids on his flesh. We are now seeing the conditions that the Bible describes as those occurring in the last days. As Christians we can try to influence things for the better in the world but we should know the end will come as written in spite of our human efforts.

In other words, if you really believe we are in the end times why do you think that Christians will actually restore America to biblical morality by just electing new leaders? Corrupted leaders that left the foundation of truth to believe lies just reflect that the people of the nation did the same.

  1. Don;

That does a rather good job of putting things in focus, now doesn’t it? It also points out the source of a lot of (truly believing) folks frustration with things in general.

    Well Said!

    Dave

  2. Don, Agreed, I would add that the focus in these last days for the church (the body of believers not the buildings) needs to be that the world, left in the hands of mankind, is hopelessly lost to Satan.

Mankinds only hope is redemption through Christ the Saviour. We believers should be proclaiming that message. I for one want to be the person that people come to and ask “What are you so hopeful about?”

“The natural man will only lead the world on the path to destruction.”

A more true statement has seldom been uttered.
“But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God…” 1 Cor 2:14
Interestingly enough the greek here for natural is (psychikos) from which we get psycho, among others.

“Even the non Christian world should see that the world is terminally insane.”

1 Cor 2:14 cont. “But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God; for they are foolishness unto him…” The greek for foolishness is (m?ria) from which we get moronic.

Now here’s the thing that ticks me off. They think we’re the morons! You watch the news anytime now and it’s insult after insult aimed, it would seem, right at me. ARGHHH!!

Herin lies my solace v.15 “But he that is spiritual judgeth all things, yet he himself is judged of no man.”

So to sum up good post and I concur.

  3. Don, I agree totally. I would like to add that those Christians who expect a political party to return America to it’s Christian foundations is also insane. Sadly, many Christians are putting their trust in politics and government rather than trusting what Jesus said and taught us to do. The Lord Jesus changes us from the inside out, not outside in. Jesus didn’t die and be resurrected to save society, but individuals. We are the ‘illegal aliens’ in this world, not them. At the moment, this world is Satan’s world. However, soon, that will change too, amen 🙂 Even so, come Lord Jesus.

  4. Could NOT disagree more! I respect your opinion and with all due respect that’s all it is…I hope you will respect mine. I feel as frustrated and hopeless as the next saint some days BUT the Lord told us to stay busy till his return. Will I stop preaching? No. Will I stop believing that if I act in a positive Christian manner than someone may notice and ask why? No. Will I stop believing that if I preach an Acts II style of life for Christians to follow that some actually might? No. Sorry you had a bad day Don but you sound like I did yesterday…defeated. As hard as it is in these days I will not give into that. By 5 pm today I may feel differently but this morning I will rise and I will try to point to our Lord and a different {Christlike} way of living.

  5. Perhaps you should reread what I said. I never said a word about Christians giving up using their gifts to try to get others to see the light. That is the only real hope for anyone in this world.

  6. I am so thankful that I am a believer in Jesus Christ – by Grace thru faith alone. You’re right, we do keep busy and spread the gospel until he comes! Before I was born again I was very heavily into politics, even working on campaigns. I cannot even imagine how crazy I’d be today if I was still so ‘we can fix the world’ and conservatism will reign…… They world has gone truly insane. And the thing is…..they have much further to go. They’re just in ‘adolescent insanity’ right now – wait until the reach maturity!

  7. Don ,
Is it wrong for me to get some satisfaction of watching the world go crazy ? After all I moved my family to the country and started raising sheep, goats, chickens and rabbits. There’s the year round garden, orchard and let’s not forget all the beans, bullets and gold i’ve hidden throughout the hills ( recovering “patriot” Christian ) . Without the increasing insanity, I just seem like a parnoid conspiracy kook. If only I could retire from my city job of pulling hose and passing out band-aids and just watch it all from T.V. P.s. Don I’m jealous, i counted 28 lights from my O.P. (house)

  8. I think you should get satisfaction living in the country rather than choosing to live in the city like Lot. I live in the country but believe me there are plenty of crazy people to go around right here. Being a outsider here or a loner can be very dangerous. Best to have gates and dogs. No reason to gloat about your earthly riches or someone may be looking to take them away.

Where did you say you are located with that there gold hidden throughout the hills?

  9. I roger that ! Didn’t intend to gloat just trying to paint a picture of my mind-set. I live 10 days a month with eight other knucklehead firemen. No true believers ( except me of course ) and two border-line mockers. Most don’t see the insanity and a couple think voting will change things for the better. o.k. so it isn’t gold, just brass and lead : )

  10. Don, I love you, Brother! The closer the end gets, the more insane the world gets, ….because of Jesus Christ…I am at peace. I am so excited to see the scriptures being fulfilled! The polarizing of the continuum becoming more clear….the peace that Christ gives me is drawing people to him! No matter what happens, God’s will be done.
