Robert Schuller’s mighty glass empire is shattering and his hour of power is on its final minute.

Robert Schuller’s mighty glass empire appears to be shattering and his hour of power seems to be on its final minute. Robert A. Schuller is a believer and teacher of Universalism (all will be no saved no human is condemned by sin). He is the father of the gospel of self-esteem and possibility thinking and was one of the top pushers of Christian pop psychology and was also a main figure in the Church Growth Movement,  and those redefining Christianity.

How the mighty have fallen over family feuds and secret sin!

Televangelism empire in chaos over family split (OneNewsNow.com)

GARDEN GROVE, Calif. – Once one of the nation’s most popular televangelists, the Rev. Robert H. Schuller is watching his life’s work crumble.

His son and recent successor, the Rev. Robert A. Schuller, has abruptly resigned as senior pastor of the Crystal Cathedral. The shimmering, glass-walled megachurch is home to the “Hour of Power” broadcast, an evangelism staple that’s been on the air for more than three decades.

The church is in financial turmoil: It plans to sell more than $65 million worth of its Orange County property to pay off debt. Revenue dropped by nearly $5 million last year, according to a recent letter from the elder Schuller to elite donors. In the letter, Schuller Sr. implored the Eagle’s Club members – who supply 30 percent of the church’s revenue – for donations and hinted that the show might go off the air without their support.

“The final months of 2008 were devastating for our ministry,” the 82-year-old pastor wrote.

The Crystal Cathedral blames the recession for its woes. But it’s clear that the elder Schuller’s carefully orchestrated leadership transition, planned over a decade, has stumbled badly.

It’s a problem common to personality driven ministries. Most have collapsed or been greatly diminished after their founders left the pulpit or died.

America is on the wrong track because the lights are out.

No Gravatar

America is heading for a train wreck sure enough because the lights are out at the switch yard and America is traveling the wrong way on a one way track. The train wreck now seems inevitable unless someone turns on the lights so America sees the signs and quickly reverses direction.

If the light from God’s people are hidden under a bushel they cannot cast out the darkness. Some pastors and leaders in Christianity are the bushels hiding the light. The only way for lights to shine is to get out from under the bushels.

Dave Daubenmire — Turn on the Lights

So, where do we go from here? I don’t think we can do much to limit the damage, but we can begin to prepare now for the clean-up. We must return the light of the Gospel to America’s churches. I say enough, already of the foolishness. America cannot survive any more of the Humanistic gospel, the prosperity gospel, the seeker sensitive gospel, and the emergent gospel. We must return to a Gospel of right and wrong, sin and death, heaven and hell, of judgment and grace.

Judgment must begin in the House of God. It is time to restore the salt and do away with the sugar.

Are you ready to pay the price? Are you ready to stand up for Truth? Are you ready to be a soldier of the Cross? Are you prepared to fight the good fight of faith?

I hear a lot of talk about “taking America back.” It won’t be easy. But if we have any chance at all we must begin by taking Christianity back. We must reclaim our churches and restore our pulpits.

We must demand of our preachers a sin-hating Gospel.

Stop complaining about what we permit. Truth conquers lies, grace trumps judgment, and light destroys darkness.

Are you looking for a better America? Then it is time to turn on the light. Our pastors will never see the light until we turn up the heat. Stop looking for someone else to do the dirty work. Stand up, and speak up.

Light a match. Blow on the coals. Make a spark. Stop waiting on the pulpit to blaze and start a fire in the pew. The only way it can get darker is for the flames to get dimmer.

“It does not take a majority to prevail…but rather an irate, tireless minority, who keep on setting brushfires of freedom in the minds of men.” (Samuel Adams)

Dead Christians walking to a rude awaking for America

No Gravatar

Dave is correct about the vast majority of Christianity in America and the West. We have become like our mother Israel who became a Harlot and God cast her out of the land. We made corrupt world leaders our saviors, we took the God who sustains us out of the equation, and played the harlot with the world and trust in our material riches.

Christianity in America is on her death bed. What happened to our Mother Harlot Israel will now happen to the apostate church. Nevertheless, even in the Harlot that we now call Christianity God has a faithful remnant that have not bowed their knee to the neo-paganism Baal of our time. We well trust in Christ no matter how far this nations descends into debauchery and socialistic fascism. True believers need to come out and be separate from them and be spared the judgments that will eat away at these idol worshipers bodies and souls like cancer.

Most of our Christians leaders have been deceived and have defected to a worldly gospel and I just do not see any significant Christian leadership being raised up to lead America to repentance. On the contrary, Christian seminaries and Bible colleges are teaching worldly philosophies and postmodern error and just spreading the cancer to all churches. Therefore the next work of God will be judgment not revival.

God will not spare America from judgment. Even now we should see the walls of this great nation are crumbling, the family is being destroyed and every sort of evil is allowed and celebrated. Judgment is at the door but everyone thinks their political idols will save them. They will not.

America’s greatness was given by God and was a gift of God’s favor on a nation that honored Him. God no longer has a reason to favor America where He is outlawed and where even the people called by His name look toward Idols in men and government rather than looking toward the Lord. God has no reason to favor a nation that has departed from His ways to embrace doctrines of devils and the ways of the morally insane.

Now America can expect the curse she has brought on herself by abanding God and His ways. The faithful righteous will put there trust in the Lord and not in men through the coming storm and wait for the new day to dawn. That is where we are really at in spite of the hype about the future greatness of America.

Dave Daubenmire — The Congregation of the Dead

THE CONGREGATION OF THE DEAD

By Coach Dave Daubenmire

NewsWithViews.com

The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead. Proverbs 21:16

America is a dying country. I hate to be the one to break the news to you, but America is a dead man walking.

The once great “shining city on a hill” is gasping for breath. Everywhere you turn you are faced with the harsh truth that the death rattle has begun. We are a dying people controlled by a dying government, infected with the dead leadership of dead men, who chew on a dead gospel served-up in dead churches, by dead pastors living out a dead faith.

The stench of death is permeating our society. How could this possibly be? America, has wandered “out of the way of understanding.” Make no mistake about it; America is dying of spiritual starvation. We are the victims of spiritual bulimia, willingly vomiting out all that would nourish us.

America is a congregation of the dead.

We have no one to blame but the Church. I know that makes many of you nervous as you cling to your “dead faith full of dead works” believing that God is pleased with your apathy towards the spiritual condition of this nation. You, my Christian friends, are complicit in the spiritual coup that has swept over America. Compromise is the birthing ground of sin. Savorless salt producing good-for-nothing Christianity.

We are a nation of liars, following liars, believing liars, and celebrating liars. Jesus said “The words that I speak unto you, they are spirit, and they are life. We have rejected His words, and we have rejected His life. “Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.”

Much of America is Christian in Name Only. (CHINO) We wear Jesus like a merit badge from the Boy Scouts. But for most Americans church membership is no different than membership in the local Moose Lodge or the American Legion. It is a social structure where like-minded folks get together for fellowship. Like the Shriners, the Church is a club for do-gooders who want to shine their “Christian Medals” for their friends to see.

We have rejected God, rejected His Truth, and rejected His Son. We have embraced death, celebrate death, and subsidize death.

We are a congregation of the dead.

Our government is corrupt because our people are corrupt. Our people are corrupt because our churches are corrupt. Most serve mammon and give lip-service to God. Pastors beg the government to permit them to preach what God has commanded them to say. No man can serve two masters.

God is judging America my friends. Fifty million babies, sodomy in the streets, and the purging of His name….

“I tremble for my country when I reflect that God is just, that His justice cannot sleep forever.” Thomas Jefferson.

The alleged-deist Thomas Jefferson was ten-times the Christian most evangelicals are today and the Baptists wanted to run him out of office.

Parallels between The Shack God and A.A.’s higher power.

No Gravatar

“The Shack”, by William P. Young is still a hugely popular and very deceptive book that is likely to become a movie. Those that believe there is a Christian message or theme in this book are totally deceived and must not believe biblical doctrine themselves at all. The book presents another God, another Christ, and another path to salvation. “The Shack” really promotes “New Age” all paths Universalism much like A.A. which itself was founded by a man who got messages from the occult. The book is blasphemous toward God presuming to speak for God while actually promoting a “Queen of Heaven” type God that does not exist.

This pluralistic theme where many paths lead to the same God is now being promoted everywhere thanks to A.A., other 12 step programs, and the postmodern redefining of Christianity by high profile religious and secular media figures. Nevertheless, no true Christian should be sucked into such an unbiblical “New Age” postmodern concept. There is only one way to the Father (not the mother) according to the teaching of the only God/Man that ever walked the earth. That way is only through Jesus Christ as He is defined in the Bible and not as Jesus is redefined in the light of “New Age” demonic darkness.

Any Christian leader promoting “The Shack” should be immediately removed from their position because they are promoting doctrines of demons and the lie of the adversary that leads people to Hell.

Christian Worldview Network – Brannon Howse – The Shack is A.A.’s higher power.

According to the author, the god of The Shack dwells in everybody, and apparently does not condemn any to eternal punishment—or, as The Shack would address this, “She does not punish anyone.” The novel’s “christ” is the “best way” to salvation, but apparently not the only way.

What about Alcoholics Anonymous? The A.A. Big Book states, “We found that God does not make too hard terms with those who seek Him. To us, the Realm of Spirit is broad, roomy, all inclusive; never exclusive or forbidding to those who earnestly seek. It is open, we believe, to all men. When, therefore, we speak to you of God, we mean your own conception of God.”[19] According to the A.A. Big Book, God is “deep down within us.”

Thus are the seeds of the New Age planted in the soil of both The Shack and Alcoholics Anonymous. The tentacles of various heresies are reaching out and linking. The false “christ” of The Shack seems poised to be welcomed into, or serve as a catalyst for, emergent/contemplative/12 Step Spirituality.

Many Christians have superimposed their beliefs upon The Shack, supposing it a novel written by a Biblical Christian. As James De Young and others have pointed out, this is not necessarily the case. Over the decades, many Christians have also jackhammered their God into AA’s anti-Biblical system

When will we believe acts of God are acts of God?

No Gravatar

Is America now under judgment? When are acts of God acts of God? Has America done anything worthy of judgment? You be the judge.

  • So far this year we are involved in two foreign wars with another war being a distinct possibility.
  • We have had unprecedented numbers of tornadoes.
  • The Mid-West floods have been catastrophic.
  • More of California has burned this year then in any year in history and the fires are still burning with a fire season that still has a long way to go

On the Economic Front.

  • Falling Real estate values have caused the greatest financial crises since the great depression.
  • Tens of millions are losing equity in there homes, millions are losing their homes.
  • The stock market is down 20 percent and pension funds and insurance will also lose at least that much value.
  • Banks, brokerage firms and corporations are failing and need to be bailed out by the government.
  • The U.S. dollar is the weakest it has been in modern times.
  • Gasoline prices are four times what they were a few years ago.
  • Heating bills will be much higher this winter.
  • All electric bills are about to shoot up about twenty percent in one year.
  • Food prices are up 10 to 20 percent this year.
  • Inflation across the board is the worst in years and most of the costs have not even been passed through yet.
  • Services in the U.S. are becoming unreliable.
  • Unemployment is on the rise and it is going to get much higher.
  • Due to falling revenues state and local governments are going to run into major deficit problems

Crime and amorality

  • Gangs have taken over much of our inner cities.
  • Drug trafficking is epidemic.
  • Illegal drugs are used by a very large percentage of our population.
  • 2.2 million people are in prison in this nation. This is the highest incarceration rate in the world.
  • There are 10 to 20 million people in this country illegally.
  • One in four adults in the U.S. has a VD. Homosexual males have a ten year shorter life span, yet, the pushing of homosexuality and sexual promiscuity is all over the media and sexual perversion is taught in our schools as normal healthy lifestyles and this is forced on suggestible children.
  • Homosexual marriage is now legal in two states.
  • There have been 50 million abortions in the U.S. and taxpayers in one way or another are paying much of the cost. Much of the black population in the U.S. is being aborted but most black leaders keep promoting it.
  • Scams and rip-off schemes are epidemic especially on the Internet.

Politics.

  • Congress has a nine percent approval rating.
  • Judges are legislating law from the bench contrary to the Constitution.
  • Special interest groups control almost all politicians and it is now almost impossible to get incumbents out of office.
  • Thanks to the voters we have two choices for the President that want more globalism and more socialism. Both will bring in a liberal supreme court. Both will pass hate speech laws that will negatively impact Christians.

Religion.

  • A generation of seeker friendly services has watered down much of what is left of Evangelical Christianity.
  • The Emergent movement is redefining biblical truths and downplaying biblical doctrine.
  • Most claiming to be Christians are biblically illiterate not having read through the Bible even once in their lives, far less have understanding of the passages in context.
  • People flaunting their sins are put in church leadership roles.
  • Psychology theories originated from the occult have corrupted much Christian counseling and other programs.
  • New Age pagan thought is now all over the media and is being accepted by many claiming to be Christians.
  • Much of the youth is leaving Christianity for postmodern relativism

If God were to continue judging this nation what might our immediate future hold?

  • The economy would continue to decline.
  • Hyperinflation is a very real possibility.
  • Unemployment may become a very serious issue.
  • There could be much greater weather related storms, droughts and crop failures.
  • Major earthquakes would become likely.
  • Major volcanic activity is certainly possible.
  • Leadership in government could continue to get worse (even lower then scraping the bottom).
  • Terrorist attacks would become likely.
  • Hate speech laws will be passed and constitutional freedoms will be redefined by the courts. Government tyranny will become a major issue.
  • A nuclear electromagnetic pulse (EMP) attack may happen. It would leave the nation helpless without electric for months or years. (This would be the ultimate judgment it would most likely bring the complete collapse of our society).
  • The complete collapse of our economic system is possible.
  • Collapse of our social system and declining into anarchy is possible.
  • The break up of the Union is possible.

The Bible says the fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom. Don’t you think it would be wise for people in this nation to fear the Lord instead of Him having to send correction because we will not do what is right?

The all-gods sect called Alcoholics Anonymous or A.A.

No Gravatar

This is a clever article that points out the problems with Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) and most other 12 step programs.

Missionaries Into Darkest Alcoholics Anonymous – CWN

Mama and Papa,

We are in America at last. The Lord has sent us into the strangest belief system. The men and women here seem impervious to the Gospel, but the Lord has given us great love for them.

This religion teaches that virtually anything can be defined as a god. During their meetings these people gather and pray in unity, but the “god” each individual prays to can be as varied and unique as particles of sand in our African desert. It is unsettling watching them join in the Lord’s Prayer, because most do not know Jesus, and therefore cannot know the Father.

This religion was founded here in America in the 1930s. It is a very American system of belief and worship. Very democratic, one might say. In this belief system, it is not important what one worships, only that one must worship something. In fact, initiates who come seeking help, but who have trouble inventing or envisioning a god, are often told they can worship a “doorknob,” or even the group itself to begin their spiritual journey.

Clearly the enemy uses this all-gods movement to dull Christians down, and to point the unsaved anywhere but Christ. This strategy has been marvelously effective.

Please pray that our Lord raise up other missionaries to send to these people in Alcoholics Anonymous. There are so many lost people here. This hurts to say, but many of the Christians, who love this all-gods sect, need missionaries almost as badly as the unsaved.

Pray the Lord of the Harvest sends laborers,

His missionaries In Deepest, Darkest A.A

Sheep will have no direction without Shepherds

No Gravatar
I have often heard pastors tell the sheep in the pews that they need to get busy because God works through them as well. That is true, but sheep do not lead they follow. Perhaps your people are not doing anything but warming the pews because you have not provided them a spiritual battle plan. How many are even giving their onward Christian soldiers a weekly briefing on issues of our day like those found in the quote of Dave Daubenmire below?

I think we have all heard enough of your canned applications for living a Christian life. Now we need leaders who know how to take the high ground and be steadfast against the amorality and heresies of our day that are perverting our nation and our churches.

You have no idea how many Christians tell me that they are totally fed up with churches and do not wish to attend them. Frankly, I find that I can not even defend the Western concept of church. How did the Church of God become a Sunday ritual or a weekly entertainment service?

The Church is the Body of Christ on earth. We are God’s representatives and not a service or a building!  I think all Western church leaders should be required to spend one month in a third world Christian church, preferably one under persecution, and then we might see biblical Christianity being taught and enacted in the West. Unless God chastises our churches and our nation and people repent revival is not going to happen in America on any national scale. You can take that to the bank.

Why do the churches make spiritual elders out of kids whose only achievement is to graduate from Bible college? What leadership abilities and moral lifestyle does that display? They then get to be leader of a congregation, spend a few years and job shop for more money or prestige somewhere else. Or many are so immature that they get caught up into sin. So then the local churches get to search again for another outsider that will very likely be their clone. Is that the instruction we received from Paul about how to select elders in our churches? Hello?

Then we wonder why we find that we have used car salesmen instead of leaders in our pulpits. Yeah, and don’t expect these people to put their neck on the line for the flock when they are outsiders and have never bonded with them, and don’t expect unproven kids to lead spiritually when they are still soiling their own diapers. Then we wonder why young pastors are emerging into heretical movements. They should not have been put in the positions of an elder in the first place!  Contrary to the thinking of Western Churchianity a degree from ORU or SW Bible College by itself does not make people qualified to be an elder of a local body. Find someone who meets the qualifications of an elder in your church and then send him to Bible college for additional formal training, not vice versa.

Dave Daubenmire — Sheep Without Shepherds

After the event the reaction was the same as everywhere we go.

“My goodness,” the attendees say. “Where are our pastors? Why aren’t they telling us this stuff? We have to do something. There are more Christians than there are any other faith.”

And what is it we are telling them when we hold a seminar?

• Abortion is Murder.
• Homosexuality and divorce are sin.
• Our schools have become Secular-Humanist factories.
• Our rights are God-given, not government-granted.
• God is King…..your government is not.
• Judgment begins in the house of God.
• It is our job to fight for Truth.
• American Christianity has lost His Salty Savor.

The pastors never come. The sheep innately know something is terribly wrong but can’t put a finger on the problem. We expose the Devil’s game-plan and their eyes become opened, but they have no where to turn. “I wish my pastor was here.”

But the shepherds won’t come. They are afraid of what they might hear. Christianity is an army without generals.

AA and 12 steps were not founded by Christians

No Gravatar
Churches today are filled with 12 step programs based on a model that has no foundation in Christianity. I also wrote my own article that deals with the issue.

It is not just fear that keeps us bound to this all-gods religion. The 12 Step experience becomes an idol—long-term involvement almost always results in a transference of faith. Bluntly stated, when it comes to sobriety, many Christians end up with more faith in the power of the 12 Step program than in Jesus Christ.

This idol worship is by no means limited to those in AA, but applies to many in “Christian 12 Step” groups.

This transference of faith is subtle, gradual, and frequently inevitable. The result is that sobriety without the 12 Step program will not even be considered. Biblical wisdom, given by concerned and caring believers, is rejected.

For many years Christians have justified their involvement by pointing to numerous books that claim AA and the 12 Steps are Christian in origin. If this is true, then obviously AA’s cofounders had to have been Christians. Indeed, this belief is also a primary rationalization for remaining in the AA religion.

Did AA cofounders Bill Wilson and Dr. Bob Smith follow Christ?

12 steps toward pluralism and universalism defiles Christians

No Gravatar

This is a very well written article on why pastors should not be promoting 12 step programs like AA. I wrote my own article on this subject a while back that says much the same things. You will find it in the New Evangelicals and post-modern psychobabble section of a much larger article I wrote on Dominion theology and where it will lead the church. There are a couple of good reference links on my piece. One is on the founders of AA, Bill Wilson, who was a real nut case. Also read the below article it gives additional insights.

A perfect example of a graduate of a 12 step program is President George Bush. He solved his alcoholism but now embraces Universalism where many religious that deny Christ lead to God.

Alcoholics Anonymous: Pluralistically Praying unto the Higher Power – CWN

T.A. McMahon sums it up very well: “AA’s official biography indicates Bill Wilson received the details of the 12 Steps through spirit dictation. Does anyone see a simple, idolatrous problem here? But what about evangelicals just using the methodology the familiar spirit gave to Bill Wilson? Simple again: God condemns the source, and the approach is contrary to the way He wants to transform our lives. Furthermore, why turn to such a spiritually toxic system? Where are the evangelical pastors’ heads in this?”[10]

Pluralism is here. Worshiping with non-believers is here. It has gone far beyond the National Day of Prayer. It is a daily occurrence at 12 Step meetings throughout the entire country.

Dobson and Schuller’s Psychological Christianity

No Gravatar

Gee, someone actually agrees with what I say about this sacred cow of Christianity. Most science is corrupted by deceptive philosophies of the world in one way or another and does not mix well with Christianity. Theories of Psychotherapy do not mix at all

“Dobson’s Law” has always agreed with Robert Schuller – CWN

In response to recent articles concerning Shirley Dobson’s commendation of the ministry of Robert Schuller, I must confess there is no surprise here. Nothing has contributed more to the current preoccupation with self than the propagation of the psychological gospel. And perhaps no man has popularized this man-centered approach to Christianity more than radio psychologist, James Dobson. Setting aside any question of his sincerity (man cannot judge the heart), it must be recognized, however, that his media ministry has been more responsible for spreading the false gospel of self-esteem, self-love, self-respect, and self-acceptance than many others. For over three decades

Shirley Dobson appears on Hour of Power and says Robert Schuller is doing good work

No Gravatar

Much of the church is missing Dr. Dobson’s mixed message because he tells them what they want to hear on issues of the family and morality but Dr. Dobson seems to be confused on many theological issues – from the evil of psychology in the Church, to soft dominionism to his confusion on Robert Schuller’s universalism.

I wrote an article that includes information on Dr. Dobson if anyone cares to read it. The major segment on Dobson is about half way down the article in the psychobabble section, also check the excellent link within for much more information.

Do The Dobsons and Focus on the Family Agree with the Emergent Church? – CWN

If Dr. Dobson and Focus on the Family are NOT in agreement with the Emergent Church then Dr. Dobson should release a letter stating that he does not agree with Emergent church leaders such as Dr. Robert Schuller and apologize for his wife’s appearance with Dr. Schuller on The Hour of Power and his VP’s appearance at Schuller’s conference.

Dr. Dobson should commit to hosting a series of programs on this fast growing cancer inside the church. Dr. Dobson could invite former Emergent Church pioneer, Jason Carlson on his program to expose the heresy of this Trojan horse in our camp.

I really wish that Dr. Dobson and Mrs. Dobson would join me in my opposition of the Emergent Church theology and not be praising one of its biggest leaders and promoters. At the conclusion of her interview with Dr. Robert Schuller, Mrs. Dobson says, “Thank you, thank you, thank you Dr. Schuller. God bless you and the good work you are doing here”

What? “God bless the good work you are doing here”? What good work is that, leading millions of people to hell with a false gospel? Really, I would like to know what good work she is talking about. Dr. Schuller promotes Universalism and I know the Dobsons do not agree with Universalism.

Why on earth would Mrs. Dobson appear on The Hour of Power and then ask God to bless “the good work” Schuller is doing? FOTF and the Dobson’s have nothing to gain by cooperating with Schuller, but they do have their credibility to lose with discerning, conservative, Bible-Believing Christians.

Psychology emerging in Christianity

No Gravatar

Many Christian leaders understand that moral relativism is a plague on society but for some reason they do not understand that this thinking originated from theories of psychology.

It also is no accident that psychology is now a major part of the education offered in many Bible colleges and seminaries. Is it any wonder then that leaders with majors and minors in psychology are now emerging out of these schools and are creating the Emergent Church movement.

They teach people to question and redefine what were once Christian absolutes. So now we have the emerging blind leading the blind that have already been brainwashed to accept moral relativism by their secular educators. Unless the church rejects these theories of psychology and the philosophies of the pagan world it will continue to slide into apostasy.

Many Christian leaders today use theories of psychology in their sermons, seminars and counseling sessions as if it were truth. No it is not! These so called truths originated from satanic men and are doctrines of demons.

For a good perspective on this read this excellent article.

American Thinker: Psychology: The Hard Truth about a Soft Science

Yet the problem with psychology is not just that those within the field may be peddling a relativistic creed, but that it has provided a specious scientific basis for relativism’s wider embrace. We now live in the age of “If it feels good, do it,” a maxim that is eminently logical if morals are really values and values are determined by man. Because of this, it is also the age of no accountability; after all, if right and wrong are merely opinion and thus don’t truly exist, how can anything I’ve done be wrong? Haven’t you heard, you provincial thinker, that you aren’t supposed to impose your values on me? Don’t you know I have my own “truth”? And, if nothing can be truly wrong, there is nothing to be accountable for.

For this reason, I might call psychology the science of why we not accountable. Think about it: Everything formerly labeled a sin is now diagnosed as a disease or condition of the brain. If you drink too much, it is simply because of your genetics or chemistry; if you’re an ill-behaved child, it may be ADHD; if you murdered your husband, you perhaps were in the grip of PMS; and the list goes on.

And even if, by chance, the accident that is you wound up with a well-functioning organic CPU, you’re still at the mercy of your environment (although the nurture argument seems to have lost weight in recent times). Sure, you robbed the convenience store, but you were simply programmed incorrectly by mommy, or perhaps daddy wasn’t there to provide the data that only XY org-robs can. It’s a variation on the “The Devil made me do it argument,

I also might say that mental health professionals have become the new priesthood. After all, whereas years ago people might have gone to a man of the cloth for guidance, now they are likely to lie on a therapist’s couch. The prescriptions they get are far different, too. A priest, minister or rabbi would usually render advice steeped in tradition and God-centered, but the psychologist is most likely to offer relativistic counsel, where the focus is on feelings and is thus self-centered.

And what happens when the matter of religion is raised? If you’re like many, including someone I know of, you may be told you’re taking your faith too seriously, that such devotion is akin to a mental illness. This isn’t surprising, I suppose. What future could a person have with an “illusion,” even the very attractive one that Freud seemed to believe was the opiate of the masses? Yet, with over 20 million Americans, 40 percent of college students and 1 out of 9 schoolchildren on psychiatrist-prescribed psychoactive drugs, one is left to wonder what realm is truly most deserving of that title.

Accommodation or Confrontation

No Gravatar

Accommodation or Confrontation – CWN: ” recently watched a video presentation of Dr. Francis Schaeffer’s last public meeting before he died in 1984. I was stunned, again, by the precision of his insights into his era, and ours. Dr. Schaeffer’s last two books, The Great Evangelical Disaster and A Christian Manifesto, were nothing short of prophetic. As he approached his death, after fifty years of his ministry, he observed that evangelicalism over that time could be summarized primarily by one term: Accommodation. There is a syncretism, a relativism within the Western church that accepts and capitulates to the trends of the secular society around it. Dr. Schaeffer had pointed out in his previous book, The God Who Is There, that the true, confessing Church is the last holdout against despair in any given culture. The gospel has a restraining influence on a culture, like a dam holding back the flood of secularism. When worldliness and accommodation have infiltrated the church, a culture has gone as low as it can go morally. Dr. Schaeffer summarized the evangelical situation in 1984 by saying, “The grossest form of worldliness is conforming to the form of worldliness that exists in it’s own generation. If that is true, then we must say that Evangelicalism is as worldly as it can possibly be!””

Re-Think or Repent – CWN: “this was, and is more than a “mistake” that can be corrected by the publishing of another book, or as Greg Hawkins suggests: “take out a clean sheet of paper and …rethink all of our old assumptions (and)…replace them with new insights!” Bill Hybels is one of three men who must assume some degree of moral, if not scriptural responsibility for the anemic condition of the American church today. The models of church ministry fostered by Bill Hybels, Rick Warren and John Maxwell have, in my opinion, done more harm to the true effectiveness of the church than we will be able to overcome in our lifetime, apart from a genuine revival.”

The problem is even though Hybel’s now admits that they have been wrong for twenty years. They have no intentions of going back to church the way it was before they influenced the church to depart to a worldly methodology. If you check what they are doing at Hybel’s and Warren’s churches they are going head first into heretical Emergent Church doctrines and inclusive universalism with all Religion. Why would any church retain a pastor who has lead them down the wrong path for two decades as if he suddenly now learned how to lead people to Christ and pastor the flock?

Any corporation leader who admitted that his leadership was a disaster for two decades would be fired. But not these guys! So who are the members worshiping in these churches, their pastor or Jesus? Its like those Christian’s who vote for Ted Kennedy. They know he is a immoral scoundrel but they vote for him anyway because he gives them worldly benifiets that a freshman senator could not. The church has become so much like the world these days that even the world cannot tell the difference.

The Sufficiency of the Word for Discipleship Counseling – CWN: “Sadly, the church in the United States, as a whole, does not have this commitment. In his book, The Disciple Making Pastor, Bill Hull exposes the church’s departure from the sufficiency of the written Word of God and its resulting embrace of the principles of psychology.”
