Nothing about prophetic things.

This post will contain nothing about prophetic things. It is mostly about my website and blogs.

Traffic to this blog was running at about 17,000 visits a month in the fall and since the first of year it was up to over 20,000 views a month but for some reason in the past month it is back down again to where is was last fall. Perhaps people do not want to read a lot of words. I do aim to please (once in a while) so here are some pictures.

The first is an aerial of the land we just bought. We plan to build on that land bridge to the East of the cleared knob on the left of the rectangle. 7000 acres that adjoin us on the west and northwest is owned by one person who is connected to a national conservation organization so it will never be developed. The area south and most of the area north of us is also owned by him or owned by lumber companies.

The second picture is me and the dogs? See if you can count all the dogs in the picture (I do not count).

It has been almost a year since I put the top viewed posts on the sidebar of this blog. As you see Enoch wins hands down. I never knew it would be so popular when I posted it. For some reason Google makes this article one of the top articles under “Enoch Bible” keywords.

When you look at the number of page views on the sidebar keep in mind that it does not include visits to the homepage that contain the last 10 posts, it also would not include any other multi-page views of my posts. So I guess the actual views of the 66 post on the side bar are about 10 to 50 percent higher than the number that are indicated on the sidebar. (I have 66 top posts in honor of the 66 books in the Bible.

Also keep in mind that all views on my posts before last spring would not have been counted and the more recent posts could take quite some time to get into the top 66 (if they get there at all from keyword searches in Google or elsewhere).

I have been looking for a more readable WordPress theme for the Blog in the spare seconds I have. I looked at almost all of them that are available but I have not found one that satisfies me yet.

I probably will take down my old inactive blog before the end of the year (Dumb Delusional or Demented Club). It now is only getting about 25 visits a day. One post last year had been getting a get a lot of views on the keywords “Obama” “socialist” but now that so many other people woke up to the fact that Obama is a socialist and wrote their own articles my article fell out of the top rankings.

I need to go through the two thousand posts on that blog and put anything really worth keeping by converting it to an article on my website. But actually accomplishing that will take something I do not have right now – time.

Speaking about the main website, www.thepropheticyears.com continues to increase in traffic. Google finally got it back up to a page rank of 4 a couple of months ago. I guess it remains to be seen if it will stay there. The total traffic on the website that includes the blogs is about 1000 unique visitors a day and about 5000 page views a day (written articles). Page views are most important because those are the actual written articles download, it does not include graphics ads etc. People often ask how many hits you get on your website but hits can be very misleading if you have ads, images, scripts etc. on each page. On some websites there may be well over a hundred hits on every page viewed.

There are a couple of articles on my main website that have been averaging about 50 to 100 downloads a day for quite some time. You might want to check them out if you have not already.

  1. I see five dogs. Do you have more?
Currently we have (dare I say) nine dogs.
Yes I know its crazy. My wife has a big heart and brings home
dogs that she finds abused and neglected. She is a Physical Therapist
and is contracted as a Home Health PTA.
She sees all kinds of animals in trouble and does what she can to help them.
Some we have found homes for. Others we have kept.
A few we have wept over as they were to far gone with no chance of recovery
so we took them to our vet where they were put to sleep.
I “quit counting” also once we reached six dogs and three cats.
It may be silly to some people. But these animals are God’s creatures.
We include all God’s creatures in our prayers.
    Kudos to you Don.

  2. Hi Jeff,

Your count is correct. The Yellow dog in the picture did not get along with most people and other dogs so we found it another home where she can be a house dog and king of the castle. We got two more puppies since then so we are back up to six dogs but one now has cancer and 3 of the others are getting quite old. All of our dogs were rescued. Two were abandoned in the wilderness and at deaths door. One dog came from the pound and all the rest were puppies that would have been killed by their owners if we did not take them. We also have 5 cats right now.

  3. Don,
Your property looks great by the way and your dogs are so cute! We love our dogs too.
Also, I went to your prophetic years blog and we really appreciate all of the common sense preparation advice available – great without being ‘wacky’. Although I must admit, about 12 years ago my admonishments to my extended family about “the direction of things” seemed extreme and implausible to them. Suddenly, they think I’m ‘mainstream’ again (since they now finally see it themselves – and they aren’t even Christians…….but I keep praying!)
    My question is this:
Would I be breaking the ‘non prophetic things post’ if I asked a prophetic question?

  4. Hi Shauna,

If you look close you will see the cleared area that we want to build on is almost surrounded by drainage. That cleared area is the top of a hill with steep drop offs to the drains below almost all around that 17 acres.

You can ask your prophetic question here but I would really rather that you go to the homepage of my blog https://www.thepropheticyears.com/wordpress/ and do a keyword search from the box on the upper right. Something suitable might come up on the issue since I have over a thousand posts. I may have already made remarks on that question. Sometimes it is more appropriate to just email me with your questions rather than getting the comments section off tread.

I also have a search box on the bottom of the home page of the website. I have articles about Bible prophecy that are not on this blog and a full Revelation Commentary. My email address can also be found on the home page.

  5. Don,
This was interesting as I have always wondered what it is like where you live. I appreciated the photos, must be very different from upstate New York where you lived (I think).

Whether you get 20, 000 visitors on your blog, or 2, may the Lord be glorified and obeyed.

    John
