Common misapplications of selected scriptures

Selected scriptures are often commonly parroted by well meaning and also some not so well meaning Christians in America that are simply misapplications of God’s word. I will point out a few here but if you are a serious student of the scriptures others may come to your mind so feel free to share them here. A home mortgage now makes sense as the ultimate hedge against inflation

A large mortgage on a property now only makes sense as the ultimate hedge against inflation because the government will be financing and subsidizing your tangible property for the duration of the loan.

The reason why long term interest rates are so ridiculously low is that people running our economic system fear deflation so they are spending money that we do not have to kick the can (the day of reckoning) down the road. I think it is now obvious that our government will not allow a deflationary depression. We are heading for a lot of inflation in the future. The relationship between making Bible passages allegory and heretical cults

The Bible contains allegory but when it does it is also makes it clear in the passage. I think along with legalism there is a strong relationship between those that twist Bible passages into allegory and heretical movements and cults.

We can look at the history of Christianity since the Apostles and we will see a reoccurring pattern between allegory and heresy. The first heretics were legalists that wanted to put Jews that found the Messiah back under Jewish law. Soon after we know that gnostic heretics became a plague on the Church. The Bible is a book of scripts from God and most scripts have context

I have noticed that some teachers and preachers today just rip passages of the Bible out of proper context in order to support whatever point they happen to be teaching. However, the Bible is a book of scripts from God and most of His scripts do have context. So maybe some teachers should read the context of a passage of the Bible before they give a teaching based on a passage.

Taking scriptures out of context and applying strange interpretations to them has been going on since scriptures were given. Making certain Bible passages allegory and misapplying them is how we got Gnosticism, certain Catholic Theologies, some Protestant Theologies, Dominion Theology, Replacement Theology,  Liberation Theology, Emergent Theology, Word/Faith Theology etc, etc.… continue reading

Explaining my faith and not giving expected apologies – by Josh!

There was a recent article in The Christian Post called Most Christians Cannot Explain their Faith, Says Appologist. The apologist was Josh McDowell and here is part of what was said in that article.

In his 50 years of ministry, McDowell has asked several thousand pastors and leaders how they could be certain Jesus Christ said “I am the truth” and not one of many truths or a truth.

Israel and Bible prophecy in the light of present world realities

I have figured out that I really cannot figure out how end time prophetic events involving Israel will all play out but of course like so many others that write on Bible prophecy that won’t stop me from writing about it.

Probably the main premillennial futurist speculation today is that the war of Ezekiel chapter 38 will take place within a few years but that does not make sense to me in the light of present world realities. Israel is not living in security as it is so clearly stated in the Ezekiel prophecies. The Mahdi 2012 Antichrist is delayed his head got stuck in the well.

Some Bible prophecy teachers and their disciples are looking for some Islamic Antichrist to appear in 2012 and most of them think it will be the Islamic 12th Imam Mahdi figure that Shia religious lore says will ascend out of a well. I think this Antichrist figure should be getting a swelled head by now with all the expectations for him coming from these Bible prophecy teachers. Therefore, their Mahdi figure will never get his swelled head up the well in time for some 2012 Antichrist.

Granted, that there are others that think Obama is the Antichrist but these people are only grasping at a strawman for their 2012 date.… continue reading

Blazing Arizona is Really Hot and Just started Raising Hell

Arizona used to be a very nice place to live before the foreign invasion. I think I am well qualified to talk about blazing Arizona because I lived there off and on for almost fifty years. I have over fifteen years logged in hot Arizona and I also lived just across the border in just as hot Nevada for seven more.

What has just happened in Arizona gives me reason to hope to move back there someday. I would love to live on 40 acres in the sunny high deserts of beautiful Arizona but illegal foreigners are rapidly trashing the state.… continue reading

2010 hurricane season predicts stormy U.S. ties with Israel!

There are certain people in the Bible prophecy field that blame every single natural disaster in the United States on some negative action of the United States toward Israel. Thus, if their tit-for-tat physics is valid using reverse logic the scientific prediction of a very active 2010 Hurricane Season predicts that the United States will have very stormy ties with Israel from June through November.

People on the coast better prepare by telling the Obama administration to give Israel the red carpet treatment this summer or they will get tarred and feathered with wind blown gulf oil and pigeon feathers.

Believe me, I would not expect smooth sailing on the coast this summer even if we gave Israel the Middle East.… continue reading

Should churches run preschools? I say nope.

This post is not going to make me popular with some people that I know since two out of my last three churches operate preschools. Nevertheless, I have to write what I really believe and that might not be what certain people what to hear. When I talk about preschool here I am talking about structured programs away from home before kindergarten. I know kindergarten is really preschool but kindergarten with five and six year old children could have educational value.

My generation generally did not go to preschools and I think that my generation did as well or better than any generation since then academically or socially.… continue reading

Should Christians help out email spammers and scammers?

I received this email today but I am not going to answer it because I believe it a scam. Probably at the very least it would just get me on the huge Nigerian suckers email list. I will give my reasoning why I believe this email is from spammers and scammers, but you be the judge.

The subject line in the email is “WHY IS IT THAT CHRISTIAN’S DON’T HELP” and it was sent to the email address on my website.

America will default on national debt or have Hyperinflation before 2020

I guess you heard that the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) has said our federal national debt will be about $22 trillion by 2020. I think it will be many trillions higher than what they say but don’t confuse our government national debt with our government negative net worth. What we owe in debt and entitlements is now well over $70 trillion and is now increasing by $5 trillion a year.

The obligations we owe exceeds the whole gross domestic products of the world ten times over. People really have to be blind to the facts to think that we can ever repay these obligations in today’s dollars.… continue reading

Meanings of parables and Bible prophecy are only for the astute elect.

Some wonder why Bible prophecy is so cryptic? The answer is that understanding of  both parables and Bible prophecy are only for the astute elect. Jesus taught in parables at His first coming so that those wise in their own understanding would not understand the things of God. The Scribes and the Pharisees did know the scriptures but they lacked understanding and could not properly discern the scriptures they knew. They would not see that Jesus was clearly taught in the scriptures because in their own self righteous religious understanding, the Messiah would enable them and not correct them.

Christians that know Jesus without reading the Bible

I have found one absolute truth in every evangelical Bible believing church. (I have attended many churches with all the moves that I have made over the years). That absolute truth is that most people that attend these churches have never read through the Bible even once in their entire Christian lives. How do they really know a biblical Jesus without reading the Bible? Apparently some Christians think they know all about  Jesus but they do not know or care that the Bible is the only infallible source that accurately speaks of Him?

Brannon Howse interviews Gerald Celente about dire 2010 world trends forecast

I have been sitting here listening to Brannon Howse interviewing world trend forecaster Gerald Celente. It was one of the most interesting interviews I have heard in a long time. Celente is not a prophet so what he says will not necessarily take place but I think you would have to be foolish to discount all of what Gerald Celente is saying. The man certainly calls them like he sees them and he does not pull his punches.

Trend researchers study today’s current events that will bring tomorrow’s effects. I see much the same things as Celente coming but I am not as sure of the timing as he is. … continue reading

Dubai: excessive debt is but a symptom of excessive world debt everywhere

Vox Day in this article on the dire sign of Dubai implies the default of Dubai World is just the start of the unraveling of tens of trillions of dollars in world debt everywhere. The article contains a pretty compelling graph as it compares excessive debt in the world to the 1930’s and world gross national product.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news but the plain truth is that there is no way that we are going to get out of this economic mess without defaulting on our debt or just inflating away the value of the dollar until it becomes green toilet paper. Make the pastor preach to the choir!

My wife has a good voice and a good ear for music and she wants to join the church choir and of course she should. The problem is that she will not join the choir unless I join as well, even though she knows I cannot sing a lick (unless I am jointly singing “American Pie” at some wedding).

Joining the church choir is difficult for me since I cannot even read music and my voice is different everyday. If I try to look at the notes in the song book I often lose the words as well. Even when I am in the pews they are often already on the third stanza by the time I get the hymnal open to the right page and get my reading glasses on.… continue reading

Fort Hood shootings exposes heroes, sitting ducks and Obama

I pray for the families of all who died as a result of the Fort Hood shootings may God comfort you in your time of great sorrow and loss. I also pray for the wounded. May God heal and and restore you.

I also want to honor all the heroes that were involved in saving others at great risk to themselves. I hope they will be formally honored by our nation as the heroes that they proved to be.
